Who Needs to Be In the Room
The AI Safety Nigeria Summit 2026 is a landmark convening — the most significant gathering on responsible AI governance Nigeria has hosted.
Purpose
Why We Convene
Nigeria is at a critical inflection point. Artificial intelligence systems are already making decisions that affect millions of Nigerians — in credit scoring, healthcare triage, judicial recommendations, and public services. Yet the governance infrastructure to oversee these systems lags dangerously behind.
At the same time, the international architecture for AI governance is being constructed now, in real time. Norms set by the EU AI Act, the Bletchley Declaration, and emerging multilateral frameworks will shape what is permissible, what is required, and what is prohibited — for every nation, including Nigeria.
Nations that engage substantively in these conversations shape the outcomes. Nations that do not inherit them. The Summit exists to ensure Nigeria engages — with depth, with credibility, and with a coherent national perspective.
Our Mission
To establish Nigeria as a responsible, credible, and active participant in global AI governance — and to accelerate domestic frameworks that protect Nigerian citizens.
Outcomes
The Summit will produce the Nigeria AI Safety Declaration, a set of sector policy recommendations, and an ongoing multi-stakeholder working group.

The Organiser
AI Safety Nigeria
AI Safety Nigeria is a public-interest research and advocacy organisation focused on ensuring that artificial intelligence serves the wellbeing of Nigerians and the broader African continent.
Founded in 2023, we work across three domains: applied research into AI risks specific to the Nigerian and African context; policy engagement with government agencies, legislators, and regulators; and public education to build informed national discourse on AI opportunities and risks.
We are non-partisan and non-profit. Our work is funded by a combination of foundation grants, institutional partnerships, and individual supporters committed to responsible AI development.
The Summit is our annual flagship convening — the moment where our research meets policy, where sector expertise meets public interest, and where aspiration becomes action.
Partners & Supporters
Convened in Partnership
AI Safety Nigeria works alongside government, industry, research institutions, and civil society to shape how AI serves Nigerians and the African continent. If your organisation shares that commitment, there’s a place for you in this work — as a Summit sponsor, a research collaborator, or a partner in the wider mission.
